TE-TOL covers over 90 percent of the heat demand of district system heating of Ljubljana and 3 percent of electricity demand in Slovenia.

Simultaneous production of electric and thermal energy is called co-production or cogeneration. With cogeneration TE-TOL attains better efficiency as it would attain with isolated production and at the same time it’s reducing the negative influences on the environment. The essential benefit of highly efficient cogeneration is reduction of the carbon dioxide emissions, therefore it is also stimulated by European legislation.

Advantages of cogeneration
Important advantage of cogeneration is saving of primary fuel (at least 10 percent) for equal amount of produced energy in comparison to isolated production.
